The goal of the troop is to prepare boys to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime and to become responsible, participating citizens and leaders guided by the Scout Oath and Law. This is done through a program of learning outdoor skills, nature study, camping, STEM programs, community service projects and a Merit Badge program that allows the scout to investigate potential future careers.mThe ultimate goal for most scouts is to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout.
The Scout Law: A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Clean, Brave and Reverent.
The Scout Oath: On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to my God and my Country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times and to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

The latest Eagle Scout project, that of Gabe Obrien, member of Queen of Heaven’s Boy Scout Troop 334, came to fruition on Saturday, July 16. Made possible by numerous donors, and with the help of 20 Boy Scouts and adult volunteers, the “Walk with the Saints” was completed.
At the southeast end of the Church’s east parking lot, a cement walkway begins to the left of the Perpetual Adoration Chapel and circles up behind the hill past signage and the entry to the previous Eagle Scout project, “Divine Mercy Shrine in the Woods.” Matching signage for the “Walk with the Saints” is diagonally across on the right, at the top of the cement path that continues down through woods and then alongside the grassy area at the top of the pond, connecting to the sidewalk leading to the other devotional gardens.
Gabe directed the volunteers on this cloudy day to help construct and level the posts, spread fifteen (15) wheelbarrows of fill dirt along the concreted walkway, lay landscaping fabric, spread ten (10) tons of limestone, assemble a bench kit, and install wiring for each post. There are eleven (11) posts located on the south side of the walkway, each with a poly-roofed icon of a saint attached at the top, which will be lit up at night. The icons alongside the walkway are of: Saint Jude, Saint Dominic, Archangel Gabriel, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Francis, Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Anthony, St. Nicholas, St. Michael, St. John Bosco, and the Children of Fatima – Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta.
The master plan and layout of this spiritual retreat on the nearly 17 acres has been developed over time by many Eagle Scout and other projects suggested by Queen of Heaven Pastor David R. Durkee. Pastor Durkee said, “These projects were built for all to experience peace, joy and happiness on holy ground. Please take advantage of these gardens to deepen your spiritual life.” More information, call 330-896-2345 or see: www.queenofheavenparish.org
“Divine Mercy Shrine in the Woods” is the Eagle Scout Project of Jack Cole, Queen of Heaven parishioner, altar server and member of Queen of Heaven’s Boy Scout Troop 334. It is a refurbishment and update to the “Chapel in the Woods,” a 2007 Eagle Scout Project. The “Divine Mercy Shrine in the Woods,” is located behind the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration chapel. A quarter-moon concrete walkway starts with the sidewalk on the left side of the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel and circles behind and up to the Divine Mercy Shrine in the Woods. Signage marks the entrance to the Shrine. A pathway, edged with landscaping ties and gravel, leads to four assembled benches and the newly added Divine Mercy icon/image. Future plans include four smaller, additional shrines, namely: St. Faustina Kowalska who had a vision of the Divine Mercy image, St. John Paul II who in 2000 instituted Divine Mercy Sunday, the seven corporal works of mercy, and the seven spiritual works of mercy. Per Queen of Heaven Pastor David Durkee, “This area in itself says that this is a great place for solitude, prayer and thanksgiving.”
