Join Us For Our Annual Day of Prayer and Fasting For Priests on Friday, October 25.We will pray and fast for our dear priests who give their lives unselfishly to our Holy Catholic Church and bring us the great gift of Christ in the sacraments. May God bless them richly for their vocation!
How can we pray and fast on Friday, October 25th? Here are some ideas:
Attend Mass;
Offer private prayer;
Fast from the internet, sweets, a meal or something else you enjoy;
Spend time in Adoration*;
Pray a Rosary (airtimes are 5:30 a.m. & 9:30 p.m.);
Recite the Divine Mercy Chaplet (airtime is 3:00 p.m.).
Queen of Heaven was chosen as a prayer location for this event. Join our parish as we pray for priests: a Communal Rosary at 8:00 a.m., Mass at 8:30 a.m., and private prayer time in our church (open from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.) or at our Adoration Chapel* (open 24/7 in a separate building off the parking lot).

St. Mary School, Akron provides a quality elementary education for inner city students. Most of our students face many challenges coming from families living below the poverty level. They need help with homework and basic skills, personal encouragement and positive role models. The St. Mary Enrichment Center invites adults and college and high school students to work with a student in its After School Enrichment Program on Thursday afternoons from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. Volunteer Orientation will be September 12, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., and the Enrichment sessions begin September 19, 2024. Blessings in a Backpack continues to provide the children in Green Local Schools with meals every weekend. Donations are always appreciated and useful. We are expecting to feed approximately 175 children this school year. All these children are considered at high risk of hunger. The items listed below are always needed: individual applesauce, hearty soups, pastas in a can (spaghetti-O's), ramen noodles, oatmeal, mac and cheese, and canned vegetables. Please bring the donated items to the Gathering Space in the back of the church. Note: We also need help packing the backpacks each month. We will be packing in the pantry garage at the Green Intermediate School. If interested in helping, we begin at 9:00 a.m. The tentative packing dates are once a month on Thursdays: September 19, October 10, November 7, December 5.

On Sunday, September 8, from 9:15-10:45 a.m, Queen of Heaven Parish Spiritual Life Commission will be hosting an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast in the pavilion to welcome all PSR students & their families. The breakfast is in between the two morning Masses. All parishioners are welcome to attend.
The Fr. Hilkert Ozanam Center at The Visitation of Mary Parish is asking for volunteers to help the needy with clothing and groceries. Queen of Heaven’s next upcoming scheduled volunteer days are on Saturdays, September 21, October 19, November 16 and December 21, 2024, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. If you have any questions on volunteering, please call the parish office at (330) 896-2345. The Visitation of Mary Parish is located at 93 Kent St., Akron.
Fun Days for all ages in the community and parish will be on Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. There will be midway games, inflatable obstacle courses, a climbing rock wall, a basket raffle, and the NEW white elephant tent (give us an offer!). Also, a car raffle is being held for a new, equipped 2024 Kia Forte donated by the VanDevere Bunch. Raffle tickets at $20.00 each or six (6) for $100.00, are available in the parish office (cash, check or credit card) Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., after weekend Masses, and at the Fun Days festivities. The drawing for the car will be on Saturday night, July 27 at 9:30 p.m. Winner does not have to be present.
Food will be available both evenings. On Friday night (and Saturday night after the Boy Scout Troop Dinner) there will be burgers, hot dogs, fries, etc., grilled by the Venturing Crew scouting unit. On Saturday night from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., there will be the famous Smoked BBQ Chicken and Pulled Pork Dinner catered by Boy Scout Troop 334 – presale adult dinners are $10.00 & children’s dinners are $8.00 until July 22; after that date, adult dinners are $12.00, and children’s dinners are $10.00.
Both nights there also will be ice cream, popcorn, funnel cakes, fries, a beer truck, Kona Ice truck, and Travelin’ Tom’s coffee truck.
The entertainment on Friday night will be a tribute to Elton John and Billy Joel given by Lee Alverson on the piano starting at 6:30 p.m. and on Saturday, the LaFlavour Band will keep everyone dancing from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Representatives from the Legion of Mary will be at Queen of Heaven Parish after all the Masses on the weekend of January 20 & 21 to invite you to become an active member of the new praesidium at Queen of Heaven. The mission of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation in Mary’s and the Church’s work of advancing the reign of Jesus Christ. Boy Scout Troop 334 and Cub Scout Pack 3334 will be collecting ACME receipts this fall and winter from August 1, 2023 - February 15, 2024. We will earn 5% cash back from participating brands. We are asking all parishioners to save their ACME receipts and turn them into the envelope on the bulletin board in the Gathering Space to help us earn money for troop activities.
