Councils & Commissions

Pastoral Council

The Pastoral Council is a group of 12-15 individuals who represent the whole community, investigate and prayerfully reflect on pastoral matters, see consensus, propose practical recommendations, and give counsel to the pastor. An individual well suited for this council would be prayerful, a good listener, open-minded, nave a sense of mission, and be willing to become involved in parish life. New members are added by the process of discernment each Spring and serve a three-year term. Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Finance Council
The Finance Council is a consultative body whose mission is to assist, counsel and advise the pastor in the overall fiscal operations of the parish; to plan and monitor the annual budget, communicate financial information to the parish and encourage the stewardship way of life. Meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month.

Spiritual Life Commission
The Spiritual Life Commission assists the pastor by developing pastoral plans, policies and religious experiences in the area of spiritual growth and development. The commission is open to parishioners who are knowledgeable or willing to gain knowledge in the different ways people approach and experience God. Monthly meetings are generally held on the second Monday of the month.

Liturgical Ministries
Adoration
Perpetual Adoration began in the new Eucharistic Adoration Chapel dedicated on Sunday, February 10, 2008. Head Coordinator: Judi Carman; Asst. Coordinator: Chriss Slaughter.

Altar Server Ministry

Altar Servers assist the priest during the liturgy. Any member of the Queen of Heaven Community (4th grade and up) who wishes to assist the priest at one of the Sunday or Holy Day liturgies is welcome. Training classes are scheduled twice a year to provide the skills needed and to assume greater responsibilities as the server matures and grows.

Bereavement Liturgy Planning
This ministry works with the families to plan the liturgy for a funeral Mass and prepare the funeral bulletin.

Communion To The Sick
This ministry is commissioned to bring the Eucharist the homebound, sick and hospitalized of our community. This ministry is open to commissioned Eucharistic Ministers who are fully participating Catholics who have a deep love for the Eucharist and a desire to minister to the sick in our community.

Eucharistic Ministry
Eucharistic Ministers are entrusted to assist the priest in the distribution of Holy Communion, either at Mass or in homes/nursing homes. Training for this ministry is offered twice a year. This ministry is open to fully initiated Catholics who have a deep love for the Eucharist.

Hospitality Ministry (Ushers & Greeter)
These ministers assist in welcoming the assembly at weekend and Holy Day Masses, and assist in collecting offerings, coordinating the presentation of gifts and distributing materials as needed. Open to all interested teens and adults.

Housekeeping Ministry
Keeps the worship area in the best possible condition. All parishioners are welcome to help in routine cleaning chores (dusting, vacuuming, etc.) one Saturday morning a month.

Lector Ministry
The lector is commissioned to proclaim the Word in our liturgical worship. This ministry is open to fully initiated Catholics who have a deep love for the Holy Scripture and for the listening assembly. Individuals serve approximately once a month.

Linen Care Ministry
The washing and caring of our altar linens is a prayerful meditation opportunity. Washing/starching/pressing linens are done in the home.

Music Ministry
Music is an essential component of good liturgy. Members bring their talents to lead the community in prayer.

         
Adult Choir: Provides music for Sunday Masses and other parish services. Practices are held each Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the church.

      
"Sent Forth" Choir: Provides contemporary music for 5:30 pm Sunday LIFETEEN Mass at 5:30 pm. Practices are held each Sunday from 3:00-4:30 pm in the church.

Offertory Gifts
All families of Queen of Heaven are invited to participate in the Ho9ly Sacrifice of the Mass by volunteering to take up offertory gifts. Families contact any usher prior to the beginning of Mass to volunteer.

Education and Prayer
Adult Education
Adult religious enrichment helps develop spirituality and teaches how to apply moral principles learned for life situations in the world we live in.

Thursday Night Bible Study:
7:00-8:00 pm every Thursday in the Parish Life Center.

LifeTeen (High School Youth Ministry)
The purpose of the LIFETEEN program is to create an environment which leads high school teenagers into a relationship with God through spiritual, educational, emotional and social experiences. The LIFETEEN Mass, Sunday night at 5:30 pm, is centered on the Eucharist, with spirit-filled music, and is lead by teens for teens. Adult parishioners of all ages are invited to minister in this total youth ministry program.

LifeTeen Core Team:
Core is comprised of approximately 25 energetic adults who have a desire to share their faith with high school teenagers. Giving from 3-5 hours a week, the Core Team works with teens at our weekly TEEN Mass, plans and runs exciting LIFE Night sessions, provides incredible retreat experiences, and reaches out to the teens at schools and in the community. A Core Team member is not only a catechist, but also a friend and mentor!

Life Support:
Life Support is a way for parents and other parishioners to minister to our teenage youth. Involvement is based on what you can give.

1) Liturgy Ministry:
Responsible for recruiting and training liturgical ministers for Lectors, Servers, Eucharistic Ministers, Greeters and Gift Bearers. Work with priest, music minister, youth minister and teens to provide high quality liturgies that involve and challenge our young people.

2) Music Ministry:
Work with the music director to coordinate music for the LIFETEEN Mass and other youth events.

3) Retreat Ministry:
Plan and execute two youth retreats to help teens affirm their gifts and  gain a deeper relationship with Christ.

4) Service Ministry:
Organize and coordinate service projects and volunteer opportunities for all teens and their families in the LIFETEEN program.

5) Hospitality Ministry:
Organize food for the teens at LIFETEEN events (shopping, cooking if necessary, and clean-up.

6) Fundraising Ministry:
Develop ideas and raise the funds to support LIFETEEN as a non-fee based program in accordance with the dictates of the parish, while simultaneously giving equal importance to the building up of community.

7) Special Events Ministry:
Plan and coordinate social and/or recreational events once a month.

Medjugorje Prayer & Discussion Group
Rosary and intercessory prayers. Open to all parishioners. This group meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Bride's Room.

Parish School of religious Education (PSR)
Programs are available for 4 and 5 year old children, elementary school students, and middle school students. Classes are offered on Sundays. Catechists and children grow in their faith and help them develop the attitudes and behaviors of a Catholic Christian. The time commitment of a catechist is about 3 hour a week for planning and class time from September through May. Catechists are asked to attend training meetings and workshops.

Little Way Charismatic Prayer Group
This Prayer Group comes together twice a month to praise and worship God in song and prayer. There is a time of sharing, teaching and Bible reading.  General intercessory prayers are offered as well as individual prayer, if desired.  Come and join this group for a spirit filled evening.  This group meets the first and third Friday of every month at 7:00 pm in the church basement. Divine Mercy Cenacle
A small faith-sharing group (Cenacle) studying the message of Mercy through St. Faustina's Diary, Sacred Scripture, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  The message emphasizes and promotes that the the concept of the Divine Mercy is more than a devotion: It is a Way of Life.  The group meets every Wednesday from 7:00-8:30 pm in the Parish Life Center.  For more information, call the office at 330-896-2345 or Chriss at 330-896-1383.

Prayer Chain
Queen of Heaven Prayer Chain promotes our love of God through prayer for the needs and intention of others. The Prayer Chain consists of a phone chain. Volunteers offer their individual prayers and daily sacrifices for the intention of each request.

Sacramental Preparation
       Confirmation:
Students entering at least the 9th grade wishing to receive this sacrament are required to attend approximately 8 classes from October through May. In preparation for this sacrament they must choose a sponsor, attend a retreat and be committed to continuing their journey of faith. Adult volunteers are needed to help assist in small group discussions, retreats and outreach. Meeting are held approximately once a month.

       Engaged Couple Sponsor Program:
This ministry is for married couples who wish to serve as sponsors for engaged couples preparing to be married at Queen of Heaven. Couples receive special training and meeting times are flexible and are at the married couple's convenience. If you have been married for at least three years and are living the sacrament of matrimony in a genuine way, please consider serving tin this ministry.

       RCIA (The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults):
RCIA is an ongoing process for those who want to join our Catholic faith community. The RCIA team supports and shares in the growth process of the candidates. The team meets Wednesdays from 7-8:30 pm from October through Easter in the Parish Life Center.

Vacation Bible School (HeroesCamp)
HeroesCamp is a Catholic-based Vacation Bible School serving children of the parish age 4 though grade 5. The goals of HeroesCamp are to teach, evangelize and to love as we act, sing, play, eat, create and study different heroes of Bible/Church. Volunteers of all ages are needed to help plan and run this wonderful week. Planning meetings begin in April and Camp is the second full week of July.

Organizations
Bereavement Dinner Committee
Members offer support and meet the special needs of fellow parishioners who have experience4d a personal loss. Upon request of a family member, funeral dinner are served in the Parish Life center. Committee members make phone calls, organize/setup/clean up dinner and/or provide a dish or dessert item.

Boy Scouts
Boy Scouts of America provides a support system for boys. Boys benefit by developing and maintaining a strong sense of self-confidence, by having a sage place to test ideas, developing goals and values, and by learning to make well-educated decisions. New scouts are welcome. Meetings are held each Sunday evening in the PAC

CYO
CYO and Community Services is a partnership of youths, adults and parishes rooted in Catholic values, committed to fostering a culture of community service, and dedicated to serving the young, disabled, elderly and poor in our community.

Holy Name Society
The Holy Name Society promotes the honor and glory of our Divine God and the personal sanctification of its members by acts of love and devotion to the most Holy Name of Jesus. Members promote the spiritual functions of our parish, support parish activities, evangelize to the non-active Catholics and support the goals of the pastor. All adult males are welcome to join. Meeting are held the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the church basement.

Interfaith Caregivers/Faith in Action
The caregiver group at Queen of Heaven is a volunteer group that provides some of the following services to our homebound parishioners: Provide a friendly visit, provide light housekeeping and provide transportation to medical appointments. They also visit area nursing homes twice a month and provide entertainment.  This is the third and fourth Tuesday of every month from 10-11 am.  For more information on this program, please call Susan Ciccolini (coordinator) at 330-896-2842

Ladies Guild

In honor of our Blessed Mother, our Ladies Guild meets together on the second Wednesday of every month at 7pm in the Parish Life Center to build vibrant, lasting Christian relationships through spiritual fellowship, service and social works.

Men's Group
Men's Group mission is to support the men f our parish in being men of "God and men of integrity, committed to spiritual, moral and ethical purity. We encourage the men of our parish to embrace gospel values in their homes, work, places and community. Men of all ages are welcome. Join us for prayer, study, fellowship, donuts and coffee at 7:00 am on alternate Saturday mornings in the church gathering space.  Check the bulletin for dates.

St. Vincent dePaul Society
The purpose of St. Vincent dePaul Society is to help meet the needs of the poor and suffering of the parish and local community. In addition to direct aid, it also helps stimulate an awareness of poverty, illness, loneliness and of many other human deprivations worldwide. Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Parish Life Center.

Rosary Makers
Rosary Makers began December 2002 for the purpose of making military rosaries for the soldiers in the Iraq war, for mission and for the sick. This ministry has been nationally recognized by President Bush during his National Day of Prayer speech on May 1, 2003. In 2003, 10,515 rosaries were made by this wonderful ministry. This ministry is funded by private donations. Rosaries are made each Tuesday morning at the church after the 8:30 am Mass, or you can take supplies and assist from your home. Children are welcome to join in this special ministry.  Donations are always welcome.

Conquest Boys

Conquest is a national network of over 330 leadership clubs and camps for boys and young men 5-16 years of age.  The mission of Conquest is to form boys into self-disciplined and confident Catholic leaders who possess moral integrity and eagerly seek to place themselves at the service of Christ and His Church.  This apostolate focuses on four areas of youth formation: apostolic, intellectual, human, and spiritual.  The means to achieve this is through offering participants challenging physical, intellectual and spiritual activities within an atmosphere of adventure.  Contact Jim Demboski @ 330-245-0367 for more information.  Feel free to observe us on Tuesday's at 6:30 pm in the Parish Life Center to witness this awesome formation opportunity or visit the website a www.conquestclubs.net

Challenge Girls
Challenge is a national network of leadership clubs for girls ages 10-16.  The mission of Challenge is to enable today's young woman to give her best to others so that Christian culture will prevail in the heart of each person and in every society.  Challenge supports the development of the whole woman, her spiritual, social, intellectual and apostolic talents.  This formation is carried out through talks, group dynamics, workshops, retreats, and many other fun, exciting activities.  Contact Diana Pratt @ 330-896-0735 for more information.  Feel free to observe us on Tuesday's at 6:30 pm in the PAC to witness this awesome formation opportunity or visit the website at www.challengeclubs.net.

Kids for Jesus (Catholic Kids Net)
K4J is a series of programs that motivates children to lie virtue and love Christ through their Catholic faith.  K4J at Queen of heaven is designed for girls ages 5-9.  Contact Stephanie VanDevere at 330-644-3961 for more information.  The club meets every other Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the PAC.  Visit the K4J website at www.catholickidsnet.org.

Fellowship
Friendship Sunday
Stay after Mass and take the time to deepen current friendships and make new ones.  Donuts and coffee are served after all Masses on the second weekend of each month to provide the opportunity to get to know each other.  We need dozens of volunteers each year for this ministry, each giving at least two hours once a year of their personal time, making coffee, juice and replenishing doughnuts.

FUNFest Committee
The Queen of Heaven FUNFest is an annual event filled with activities for the entire community.  Held each August, the FUNFest provides everyone the opportunity to share time and talents for the good and enjoyment of all.  This weekend event includes games booths for all ages, food and drinks, Bingo, silent auctions, rides and live entertainment.  Volunteer opportunities include serving  as a chair or as a worker for one of the booths, baking, setting up and tearing down booths, soliciting donated prizes and many others.  This is the one of the parish's annual fundraising events, and has enjoyed success due to the commitment, hard work and support of our parish family.

Other Ministries
Adopt a Site
Adopt a Site is a volunteer group of parishioners who enjoy doing outdoor landscaping.  Individual parishioner/families can "adopt a garden" to help maintain the parish grounds.  Anyone can volunteer to serve in this ministry.  The time commitment varies throughout the year.

Marriage Encounter

Marriage Encounter is a weekend experience for married couples, designed to help husbands and wives communicate more effectively with each others.  Marriage Encounter is a weekend experience which provides couples an opportunity to examine their lives together openly and honestly.  The emphasis is on communication between husband and wife in a setting away from the distraction and tensions of everyday life, enabling them to focus on each other.  It is a time to turn good marriages into great marriages.  Information meetings take place several time a year.

Meals for Moms
Meals for Moms is dedicated to serving moms who just had babies by preparing and bringing them meals.  Members may also do light chores or errands for the new mom.

Newsletter Committee
The Newsletter Committee is dedicated to producing a high-quality and informative newsletter presently every three months.  Our goal is to serve the parish by providing insight into our parish groups, activities, and people as well as insight into the Catholic faith.  The newsletter hopes to always remind people that we are called to use our time, talent, and treasure as part of our parish.  We also hope to get people excited about the various activities and events we are fortunate enough to have going on here.  Meetings for the newsletter are on an as needed basis.  members also use their creativity to write, edit, interview, and take photos.

Young At Heart Seniors (age55+)
This dynamic group is open to all parishioners age 55+.  They will meet monthly for fellowship and joyous times.  Activities can include speakers, group tours, day trips, bingo, cards, food, and retreats.  For more information call the Parish Office.
